Quick Tips

  • Always use a steel measuring tape.
  • Take measurement of where you will be mounting your rod, not necessarily your window frame measurement.

Window Illustration

Window Figure 1.0

For Valances:

  • Refer to Window Figure 1.0
  • If mounting rod on or near window frame, measure width as in A on Window Figure 1.0.
  • Add in projections of rod, see C on Window Figure 1.0.
  • As an example:
Window width 47 inches + 2 inch projections on rod.
    47 + 2 + 2 = 51 inches total
  • If mounting rod beyond window frame take measurement as in B on Window Figure 1.0 and also add in rod projections, C. For Board Mounted Valances, only use measurement B, do not include projection C.
  • As an example:
Rod Measure 52 inches + 3 inch projections.
    52 + 3 + 3 = 58 inches total
  • If you are ordering a gathered valance, multiply this width measurement by 1.5 to 2 times to achieve proper fullness.
  • For a 58 inch measurement you would need to order a 100 inch wide valance.
  • No need to take a length measurement for valances. Lengths are as stated for each valances.

For Panels:

  • Refer to Window Figure 1.0
  • Follow same instuctions to achieve your width measurement from above.
  • Take length measure as in D on Window Figure 1.0. From the place you will be mounting the rod to the floor.
  • Take 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch off measurement to clear the floor.
  • You may order a longer length if you want the panels to puddle on the floor.
  • Example: Width measurement is 42 inches and length is 85 inches. Order proper fullness, two panels totalling 100" and order length of 84 inches.

Recomendations for Rods:

  • Rods have a 21/2", 31/2" or 51/2" projections, round this measurement up to 3", 4" or 6" when adding on to your width.
  • Rods are typically mounted 2" to 4" above window frame.
  • Rods are typically mounted 1" to 4" beyond widow frame width.
  • But,you are the designer, you may place your window treatments wherever you like.
